Aesop Skincare Favorites

Aesop Skincare Favorites | On the Street Where We Live ( Fabulous Face Cleanser, Parsley Seed Cleansing Masque

If I could live in an Aesop store, I would. Everything about their aesthetic, from the product packaging to the apothecary/spa-style layout, is pleasant and almost therapeutic. And then there's the olfactory appeal.

My first visit to Aesop was several summers ago, when I was staying at a friend's FiDi apartment in my home city, New York. Most of my friends from home work in corporate—I'm the only teacher—so I would spend my days wandering on my own while they were at work, and meet them for dinner in the evenings. Looking back, I truly cherish that time spent by myself, wandering and traveling without sense of time, direction, or purpose.

One of those days, I found myself in SoHo and decided to peruse the Aesop on W Broadway. I was already considering their Parsley Seed Cleansing Masque, but, upon stepping in, was overwhelmed by the rows of glass bottles lining their shelves and countertops. The sales associate provided me an experience by testing products at the sink, giving generous samples, and even spraying my shopping bag with a scented product at the end! I had never felt fancier, shopping in SoHo in the summertime.

It was due to this experience that I left with one more product than anticipated—their Fabulous Face Cleanser. I am a sucker for good smells and this is just herbal, bergamot rind, chamomile bud, rosemary goodness. Aesop describe it as "a mild, low-foaming gel cleanser for sensitive or normal skin." It might feel rich at first on oilier skins, but I found that the richness balanced my oil levels.

As I find with most 'luxury' products, a little goes a long way, which softens the $31-47 blow commitment. You can even keep the bottle to house other (lesser smelling) products once the cleanser is used up. Most of all, it makes me happy, not only because of the experience it makes cleansing, but also because I now associate it with that summer, and warmth, and feeling carefree.

The Parsley Seed Cleansing Masque is another good'un—it leaves the skin feeling cleansed and refreshed, and is gentle yet effective on both my combination skin and A's dry skin. I use it any time my skin needs a pick-me-up and it always does the trick!

I have repurchased both products and plan to do so time and time again. In fact, shortly after I purchased and recommended them to one of my girlfriends, we visited another Aesop store together so that she could pick them up, too.

Also on my radar: the Fabulous Face OilResurrection Aromatique Hand Wash and Hand Balm, one of their shampoos (I'm thinking the Calming), and the Marrakech Intense Eau de Toilette.
