The Style of Shirt I've Been Loving and More Vintage-Inspired Pieces

I’ve always loved blouses. I was in a business organization in college and we often had to dress for formal functions. Most girls wore collared button-downs with their skirt or pant suits, but I wore blouses (or dresses or jumpsuits, but those aren’t the point of this post). When the pussy bow/tie neck/bow blouse came back in style, I was all over it. I love how the bow adds femininity and a touch of interest to the standard dress shirt. Bows can easily translate as juvenile, but when they’re tied from chiffon, silk, or satin, they become an elegant accent that makes a soft statement.

This season, I noticed this new variation of the bow blouse where the bow is left untied and draped down one side (or draped over the shoulder and back down the other side). I loved the retro/vintage look to it and decided I had to have one and finally found this one in the perfect rosy pink with a sheen. It even came with a matching skirt (and you know how I feel about matching sets).

Since I bought it here in Seoul, I don’t have a link to share, which is such a shame as this one is so thoughtfully designed (there’s a hidden loop and button so that the slit doesn’t gape open once the shirt is on and another hidden mechanism to keep the bow draped in place). However, MANGO did a nearly identical one in the most gorgeous sage green shade that I did try on and love but returned because that gorgeous shade didn’t work with my skin tone. If you’re more tan or warm-toned than I am, though, it’ll be stunning on you. And it happens to be on sale!

A couple other similar options are this silk charmeuse tie neck blouse (and in a lighter shade) and this bubblegum-pink bow satin blouse.

And more vintage-inspired pieces I’m loving:

  • This pretty silk scarf draped over the shoulders or tied around the neck, or worn as a headband or wrapped completely over the head.

  • This swingy dress in a cream crepe fabric and with a square neckline.

  • This floral-print dress with a super retro silhouette, à la Rachel McAdams in The Notebook.

  • This top and skirt set that screams summer and would be even more perfect paired with a cream blazer and oversized sunglasses.

  • Maybe these cat-eye sunglasses, though I’d have a hard time choosing between the pink and mocha shades.

  • These cream heels paired with any of the aforementioned pieces. They also come in a pretty sky blue.
