These Days

These Days | On the Street Where We Live ( ) May, Green Melrose, cafe, Seoul, South Korea, pink mojito, fauxjito, mocktail

April showers definitely brought May flowers and they were a lovely distraction from all the not-so-lovely stuff that went down this month. June and the summer seem to be literally bringing the light at the end of the tunnel.

In case you missed it, here’s a round-up of all our May posts. Scroll down for our monthly updates!

Feeling: some small semblance of relief. Still holding my breath though.

Hoping: I won’t have to go to the dentist again for a long while.

Listening: to the sounds of public transportation mostly (unfortunately).

Reading: The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg. I’m 200+ pages in and still only halfway through. Not sure if I’ll finish it before my commute is up for the semester.

Watching: Street Food on Netflix. We started with the Seoul episode, of course, and now I’m eager to meet the famous 칼국수 chef. The show is just well done, beautifully shot with (sad but) beautiful storytelling.

Wanting: all the clean, sustainable products in this post.

Waiting: to follow more flowers.

Finishing: this semester! The days are long, but the weeks and months fly by. Can’t believe summer vacation is already on its way.

Eating: all the Korean foods with Andrew’s brother and sister-in-law.

Sipping: fauxjitos, probably my favorite mocktail. How pretty are these from my favorite cafe?

Planning: my last weekends in Seoul before my long trip to the States—early mornings in all the gardens, delicious meals at restaurants we’ve had saved, refreshing drinks in pretty cafes, girls’ shopping days, Andrew’s birthday…and plenty of yoga in between.

Saving: all my love for my students, family, and friends who I’m seeing so so soon!

Wearing: any clothing I can bother to put on to get me through this heat. Summer has arrived in Seoul.

Looking: at my engagement ring every other moment.

Buying: matcha and dresses. Can we say summer mood?

Bookmarking: all these different ways of walking.

Loving: all the tweets we’ve liked on Twitter. It’s a quality curation of inspiration, interesting and random facts, cute animals, and mostly all the lols. Any time I’m in a mood or just bored, I scroll through and instantly feel better.

Leaving: Seoul and the humidity and monsoon season behind me. Also Andrew for a while, upsettingly.

Feeling: warm—not looking forward to a Korean summer.

Hoping: the Raptors can make the NBA finals a competitive series.

Listening: to The Bodega Boys podcast.

Reading: my favorite newsletter!

Watching: the bag of shit last forty minutes of the Game of Thrones finale.

Wanting: education policy to continue to be a major issue in the democratic primary.

Waiting: eagerly to see family in Mississippi and Illinois this summer.

Finishing: dark chocolate Kisses and never buying them again.

Eating: Korean food (it really is just the best most of the time).

Sipping: all the black tea I could when I forgot to bring coffee grounds to work this Monday—the tea did not work and I have a coffee drinking problem.

Working: through July and upset about it because I’m used to the US and American teachers are spoiled--other than the fact that they’re treated and paid like crap and work in a de facto segregated system (see ‘Wanting’).

Planning: Jen’s first trip to Wrigley Field.

Saving: more 500 Won coins because our laundry place raised the prices and seriously what the hell guys not cool.

Wearing: some badass Daiso $2 sunglasses.

Looking: at this incredible photograph by Rick Mandonik.

Buying: live fish at Noryangjin Fish Market and eating it fifteen minutes later.

Bookmarking: this long piece on the Lakers being a joke and Magic Johnson being an awful boss.

Loving: some of Jen’s new jewelry.

Leaving: this out there for anyone skeptical of the extent and depth of the con.
